2023 - Commission Meetings
- January 12 - Commission Meeting, 6:30PM
- January 22 - Second meeting to show the Webinar, "Stay or Go: Real Talk for United Methodists Exploring Their Future"
- January 28 - Meeting called by the District Superintendent for professing members (held at St Mark's United Methodist Church, Easton, Md.)
- February 13 - Open Forum. The KIUMC Commission Team provided an update on the UMC disaffiliation process and answered questions.
- March 30 - Commission Meeting, 6:30PM
Open Forum: Saturday, April 22, at 8:30 am, St. Mark’s UMC, 100 Peachblossom Rd, Easton, MD 21601.
Meeting called by the District Superintendent, for professing members.
- April 24 - Disaffiliation Q&A (Noon and 6:30PM)
- May 3 - Disaffiliation Vote. On Wednesday May 3, 2023, Kent Island United Methodist Church, voted by 92% to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church in accordance with paragraph 2553 of the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church. (This meeting and vote were for active, professing members only. Our District Superintendent presided at this meeting.)
- June 1, 6:30PM Commission Meeting
June 9, 2023: Pen-Del Annual Conference approved KIUMC's disaffiliation by a vote of 89%.
- June 29 - Commission Meeting
- July 6 - Town Hall Meeting to hear presentations about the Independent Church and Global Methodist Church.
- July 20 - Led by our Servant Leadership Team, professing church members voted on the direction of our church. The results were: 184 Join Global Methodist Church, 10 to become Independent, 2 abstained from voting. This meeting was held for everyone, but only professing members were able to vote. The gathering was followed by an ice cream social. Read more HERE.
August 6 & 10 - After taking new name suggestions from members of our church and community through August 6, we sent the top suggestions to our Servant Leadership Team for a final decision. On August 10, SLT reported the following: 41% of the casted votes were for Kent Island Methodist Church.

- August 29 - Webinar, "Stay or Go: Real Talk for United Methodists Exploring Their Future." The webinar addresses both the Global Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church. There will be pastoral representation from both, including David Bennett, representing the Wesleyan Covenant Assn. and the Peninsula-Delaware (Pen-Del) Conference of the United Methodist Church, of which KIUMC is a part of.
